Devonport aglow with fun, fitness and healthy hearts this winter

Tasmanian not-for-profit St Lukes is calling on the Devonport community to don their running shoes and shine bright this month, with the Coast’s annual glow run set to light up the night.

The St Lukes Light Night Glow Run and Walk will illuminate Devonport’s Bluff Road on Saturday, August 23, in partnership with even organisers Everyday Lions and charity partner the Heart Foundation.

The family-friendly event is open to everyone, and participants can choose from a range of distances to suit all fitness levels. This includes an 8 km or 4 km run, 2 km kids’ run, and a 600 metre kids’ dash.

St Lukes Events Team Leader Trisha Dixon said the glow run fostered movement and connection – both key to St Lukes’ vision of making Tasmania the healthiest island on the planet.

“Exercise is one of the easiest and most impactful ways for people to improve their own health, but finding the motivation can be harder in winter,” she said.

“That’s why we love this event – the St Lukes Light Night Glow Run and Walk brings people together and makes getting moving something to celebrate as a community.

“We’re thrilled to see the Heart Foundation selected as the event’s charity partner. The North-West has the country’s highest rate of heart disease, and it’s Tasmania’s leading cause of death.

“The St Lukes Light Night Glow Run and Walk raises funds for the Heart Foundation’s critical work in Tasmania, as well as community awareness to get moving for preventative heart health.”

Organiser Brian Lyons, from Everyday Lions, said registrations were now open for the electrifying evening.

“This vibrant, family-friendly event transforms Bluff Road into a glowing spectacle of fun, fitness, and community spirit,” he said.

“It’s more than a run – it’s a party! The event is packed with entertainment: big bands, drummers, a light show, party bus runners, fun signage, bagpipers, photo booths, and more. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience in Tasmania.

“To help more people get involved, parents or guardians can run for free if they’re accompanying a child. So sign up the whole family, come along decked out in your brightest gear, enjoy the vibrant, music-filled course and join us for the after-party under the stars!”

Dr. Joce Nettlefold, Heart Foundation General Manager Tasmania said the organisation would receive $5 from every registration in the 4 km and 8 km events.
