Closure of The Hobart Clinic

Closure of The Hobart Clinic

Tasmanian not-for-profit health insurer St Lukes is deeply concerned about the closure of The Hobart Clinic and says it will work to ensure continuity of care for its members.

The announced closure, effective on or before 31 October 2025, will impact access to mental health services in the south of the state – a region already under significant strain.

Chief Health Officer Luke Cameron said St Lukes was committed to working constructively with the Tasmanian Government as well as public and private providers to support continuity of care for those affected by the closure.

“St Lukes is actively engaging with stakeholders to understand the full impact of the closure and explore solutions that safeguard access to essential services,” Mr Cameron said.

“We have been strongly advocating for public-private partnerships in Tasmania, recognising the scale to operate independent services such as The Hobart Clinic is challenging in a state of our size.

“As a Tasmanian not-for-profit, we are committed to advocating for our members to ensure the care they receive reflects the value of their investment in private health insurance.”

Mr Cameron said St Lukes’ immediate priority was to ensure its members and all Tasmanians could continue to access quality mental health care.

“This is an evolving situation, and we will keep our members updated as more information becomes available,” he said.

St Lukes members with immediate concerns about their care are encouraged to contact their healthcare provider or alternatively contact St Lukes’ Customer Care team on 1300 651 988.
