Here are some questions we received recently from some participants:
My GP has retired and I’m finding it hard to find a new one that’s taking new patients, can you help?
We know it can be difficult and time consuming to find out which GP clinics have their books open for new patients. Our Health Navigation team often help people with this - we’ll do the calling around for you and then give you a shortlist of GPs with availability which you can choose from.
We can also find out which clinics may be more likely to offer concession discounts and bulk billing, but keep in mind that it’s up to the doctor to decide whether they will bulk bill. It’s a good idea to have a chat to your new GP at your first appointment about your financial situation if this is important to you.
I’m getting older and think I need to start getting some help around the house with the cleaning and gardening – where do I start?
Figuring out the aged care system can feel confusing and overwhelming, but we can help. Our Health Navigators are here to chat with you about how to get started with organising government funded home support through My Aged Care.
We can also guide you through what happens after you’ve applied and been assessed - from breaking down the different types of care packages to helping you figure out which service providers might be taking on new clients.
If you’re needing more intensive support with the steps required and don’t have a trusted support person who can help you, we can also help you connect with a local Care Finder service.
I am a carer for a family member and I'm exhausted, where can I get help?
We know carers can get burnt out and it can be overwhelming and time consuming trying to find support. There are organisations out there that receive funding from the Government to provide free help to carers - whether it is practical support such as organising support packages in the home and emergency respite, or emotional support. We can tell you about where to access this support - you don't have to go through it alone.
I think I may need to get a cervical screening; how do I know if I need to and where do I go to get this done?
You are eligible to have your first test when you turn 25 and are eligible for cervical screening if you are between 25 – 74 years old, have a cervix and have ever been sexually active. Our Health Navigators can help you find the practices, centres and clinics that perform this test closest to you – please don’t hesitate to reach out.
So if you have a question, or just need a hand getting started on your journey, reach out to one of us today. You can book an appointment with the team or fill in the form below. Please allow two business days for a response.
