I have a pensioner concession card. Hearing aids can be expensive, are there any other subsidies available for pensioners?
We know that hearing aids are an important but at times an expensive investment in your health. If you have private health insurance but are unable to claim for your hearing aids our Health Navigators can let you know about government schemes that can help subsidise hearing aid purchase that you may be eligible for. We can also help you find your closest audiology clinic.
I have seen in the media that Hobart Private Hospital will be losing their obstetric services, and this is going to affect me - I am really worried, what do I do?
We appreciate that hearing this news could be stressful and upsetting. We too, are greatly disappointed that this is going ahead. The first step you will need to take is to speak with your obstetrician. They will be able to discuss with you what arrangements will be made. As a Health Navigator, we can help you understand your options and help you find services and information that can support you and your wellbeing. Pregnancy is such an exciting time in our lives, but it can also be challenging with the pressures on our bodies and minds. There are many different resources out there that could help your overall wellbeing during this time that we will happily explore with you to find what is right for you.
I am struggling to manage my diabetes because of my fulltime work and family commitments. Are there programs or apps that can make this easier for me?
Juggling full time work and personal commitments alongside an illness can be very difficult and at times overwhelming. Our Health Navigators can assist you in finding programs and resources to support you. Whether you want to learn more about diabetes, diabetes management, or get some emotional support – there are lots of options out there. It’s important to know that you are not alone. We can help you find the support you need to manage your health in a way that suits you best.
I am new to this country, and I don’t know how the healthcare system works. Can you help me get started?
To gain access to healthcare services, you generally would need a Medicare card to get care at a reduced cost through the Australian Government. If you are not eligible for Medicare, Private Health Insurance may be an option. Our Health Navigators can help you find services who support and represent Tasmanians from diverse backgrounds. We can also help you find healthcare providers who are taking on new patients.
