At St.LukesHealth, we’re just as excited about your pregnancy as you are. We understand that the antenatal, birth and post-natal journey can be confusing and we would love to assist our members through this as much as we can.
We are extremely lucky to have terrific private hospital health partners staffed by some amazing midwives and obstetricians who do an expert job in assisting our members through the birthing journey and through the post-natal period. We also have a terrific program with Salveo Healthcare Services to deliver post-natal services to our members in Northern Tasmania who at this time are unable to access private obstetric services in a private hospital setting. However, what about the antenatal journey?
For about nine months we understand our members will go through an exciting and at times expensive process resulting in the birth of a new little person to join the family. During that time, pregnant women are expected to navigate outpatient appointments, pathology testing, ultrasound, and antenatal classes just to name a few. This can be a physically and mentally challenging period for expectant parents, particularly pregnant women. Pregnancy puts an enormous amount of stress on a woman’s body and our General Treatment (Extras) products assist in accessing affordable options to seek treatment.
We understand there is a significant amount of musculoskeletal strain on a pregnant woman’s body as a pregnancy progresses. Our physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic and exercise physiology benefits assist in providing affordable treatment by experts to maintain optimal physical health for pregnant women. Accessing these services can assist expectant mothers before and after birth through treating, educating and empowering. Common symptoms include:
- Back and neck pain
- Pelvic pain
- Carpal Tunnel
- Abdominal muscle weakness
- Breast problems
Some complementary treatments like natural therapies may assist a pregnant woman during their antenatal journey. Natural therapies, including but not limited to acupuncture and remedial massage may assist in, reducing nausea, assist in pain management and provide relaxation for those why choose to explore this.
We also pay benefit towards midwives registered with St.LukesHealth in private practice for lactation consultations and antenatal classes. If you have a private midwife assisting you antenatally, ask them if they are registered with St.LukesHealth and if not, have them contact St.LukesHealth on 1300 651 988 to discuss becoming registered.
Under our health appliances and aids cover, we pay benefits for blood glucose monitors (gestational diabetes), blood pressure monitors (pre-eclampsia or pregnancy induced hypertension) and a TENS care unit to assist with pain control during birth.
As you can see, St.LukesHealth can assist our members throughout their whole pregnancy journey, not just during the birth and post-natally. If you would like further information on what limits and sub-limits apply to your specific cover, or for St.LukesHealth to provide a benefit quote for you, do not hesitate to contact us and see where we can assist you through your pregnancy journey.
