why do you need private health cover?      ph. 1300 651 988

why do you need private health cover?

You may have already recognised that Medicare may not be sufficient to meet your health care needs. Medicare alone does not give you the freedom to choose where, when or by whom you wish to be treated. Private health cover provided by St.LukesHealth can give you that security.

Private hospital care

Medicare provides you with access to emergency care in a public hospital. You can also receive treatment for elective surgery in a public hospital, however you may have to wait for a bed to be available before you can be treated. Medicare alone does not give you a choice of doctor and it does not provide you with the control to be treated when you wish to be treated.

Private health cover gives you that choice, to be treated by your doctor of choice, at a time that best suits your needs. Private health cover helps you avoid public hospital waiting lists and opens the door to the choices that the private health care system can offer. Private health cover can not only protect your health but your lifestyle too.

Choice of doctor

If you require treatment in a public hospital you have the choice to be treated as a Medicare patient or as a private patient. As a Medicare patient you will be allocated a doctor by the hospital. As a private patient you will be entitled to a doctor of your choice. You can also elect to be treated as a private patient in a private hospital where you can be treated by your own doctor and occupy a private room if available. If you elect to be a private patient all hospital costs will have to be paid by you. St.LukesHealth gives you the ability to meet those costs therefore ensuring your freedom of choice.

Extra services not covered by Medicare

In addition to private hospital treatment, there are many extra health care services that Medicare does not cover. These services include dental, private pharmaceutical prescriptions, optical appliances, physiotherapy, remedial massage and natural therapies to name a few. St.LukesHealth offers benefits to help meet these additional costs.

But I'm young and healthy!

Even when you are young and healthy, you don't know when an unexpected illness or injury can hit. It's not just a sporting injury that may see you in hospital, it may be tonsillitis, appendicitis or your wisdom teeth, or it may be an unexpected illness that you thought would never happen to you. If you only have Medicare cover and you require hospital treatment, you may have a delay before a public hospital bed becomes available.

With St.LukesHealth you can choose where or by whom you wish to be treated. Private health cover opens the door to private hospital care and to the choices that the private health care system can offer. Your choice may be determined by where your specialist operates or on how soon you can be treated or you may wish to occupy a private room. St.LukesHealth offers you the flexibility and security you require to control your future health care needs.
