With the growing burden of chronic illness placing significant strain on the State’s health system, Tasmania has been given a boost to its preventative health efforts, with the launch of a new world-class preventative health program.
My Health Guardian, a health management and improvement program launched in the State by St.LukesHealth, will provide busy Tasmanians with an easy way to look after their health and wellbeing.
The new service is available to eligible St.LukesHealth members and aims to improve their health, resulting in fewer hospital visits and easing the pressure on Tasmania’s health care system.
St.LukesHealth Managing Director Colleen McGann said many people often found it hard to dedicate enough time to look after themselves, while others didn’t have the support or resources needed to make positive changes to their health.
“My Health Guardian has been designed to suit the needs of eligible members, from the young and healthy, to families, the elderly and those living with chronic conditions,” Ms McGann said.
“For the vast majority of members who are fairly healthy, a wide range of sophisticated online health programs are available, including comprehensive health assessments, health action plans and personalised advice on diet, exercise and lifestyle from qualified health coaches.
“For eligible members living with chronic conditions, telephone support services from nurses trained in chronic disease management are available.
“Eligible members who choose this service will be supported by a care manager – a registered nurse who will work with members to design a personalised program to suit their individual needs and lifestyle.”
My Health Guardian is fully inclusive for eligible St.LukesHealth members, participation is voluntary and does not in any way affect members’ health insurance premiums or their eligibility to make a claim.
The online service is accessed via a personalised and secure member login and is managed independently by Healthways Australia to ensure that users’ details remain confidential.
Healthways Australia Managing Director Tim Morphy said he was pleased to be partnering with St.LukesHealth to deliver the comprehensive program to its members.
“My Health Guardian is the most innovative of its type in Australia and will contribute to improving the health and wellbeing of St.LukesHealth members,” Mr Morphy said.
“Importantly, the program is designed to help members adhere to the health plan developed by their doctor.”
